Kings and Queens shouldn't have to be rich to feel beautiful!
Jade LaRose Designs was founded in 2019 to create affordable costume jewelry for entertainers and those who just like some extra bling in their lives!
Sam aka Jade LaRose has been a drag queen for the last 22 years. He grew up in the LGBTQI+ community of Montana and in 2010 moved to Portland, OR.
Sam is an enrolled member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes from Northwest Montana. He was raised by his mother and her family and was taught the importance of community, art, and celebrating the beauty of the world around us.
He was inspired by the strong women who raised him and by a community that strives to carry on traditions and finding ways to live in two worlds as contemporary indigenous people.
Sam started creating jewelry as a child learning from grandparents and community members. He started by making beaded earrings and later got into applique (flatwork), weaving, loom, and leatherwork. While attending school at Salish Kootenai College he took courses in silversmithing, stained glass, and beading. The skills learned has influenced his approach to the creation of fun drag jewelry.
Sam carries on the tradition of Native American Beadwork he learned from his family and community. Examples of his work are below.
